NAB (NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND) J&K is one of the voluntary and independent organizations that working in all areas of J&K to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity to people with disabilities. It has pioneered a wide range of services, activities and programmers aimed at prevention and cure of blindness, education, training, employment, and rehabilitation   NAB J&K was founded in 2010 it is a state branch of NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND INDIA founded in 1952.NAB J&K is officially registered under JAMMU & KASHMIR society registration act 1998





Brief History

NAB J&K is a voluntary, non-governmental organization that works to promote equality of opportunity for people with visual impairments and other person with disabilities. The In 2007 a young boy of 18, namely Mr. Javid ahmed bhat pursuing his 12th class made his mind to work for the welfare of disabled persons in J&K. Mr. Javid and his team of 4 members began to work towards forming an organization for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

  1. On 11th may 2010,the inauguration of national association for the blind, J&K STATE BRANCH
  2. In 2011, NAB J&K state branch first time in the history of jammu & kashmir started to work for the provision of inclusive education of children with visual impairment in two districts of Jammu & Kashmir baramulla and kupwara.
    • Provided educational support to 25 children with visually impaired
  3. In 2012,NAB J&K expanded its inclusive education programme to other districts in jammu kashmir.
    • Total enrolled this year in educational program 60 children with visually impaired
  4. In 2013-2014, NAB J&K opened adult training center for person with visual impairment with a view to continue its focus on inclusive education programme.
    • Total 18 candidates received services under adult training center for person with visual impairment
    • In This year total enrolled in educational program 80 children with visually impaired
  5. In 2015,NAB J&K started new project for the welfare of visually impaired with additional disabilities in srinagar and baramulla. Before 2015, none of the government or private organization had launched any intervention service for children visually impaired with additional disabilities(VIAD)
    • 18 visually impaired with additional disability like CP, MR, HI, MI AND LC receiving early intervention home based services
    • This year total enrolled in educational program 100 children with visually impaired
  6. In 2016,NAB J&K launched cbr project for the wellbeing of persons with disabilities in pattan, baramulla. Under the guideline of who with support BPA & CBM international
    • 2300 PwDs rehabilitated through this project in pattan area district baramulla jammu & kashmir
    • This year total enrolled in educational program 120 children with visually impaired
    • In VIAD project 20 students enroll
  7. In 2017, we opened different resource and rehabilitation wings for children with special needs in different districts of J&K and lunched new home based educational project for hearing impaired children’s
  8. In 2018 stated work in jammu division and opened a branch at jammu Establish an a audio book library of J&K BOSE BOOKS and other UNIVERSITY related programs for visually impaired students at jammu office and kashmir office
  9. 2019 NAB J&K establish large print press to print large font books for low vision students at jammu office
